i give you henri and margherite! (two characters inspired by knut hamsun‘s growth of the soil, which i am currently reading and thoroughly enjoying).

hamsun’s novel is set in northern norway, but i was listening to beirut‘s flying club cup album while i was drawing… so i guess these allude to the book’s french version—the one that was playing out in my head. heh!

Norwegian photographer Rune Guneriussen takes pictures of inanimate objects in weird, outdoor environments. They feel so surreal!

(Head on over to Rune’s website to check out the full breadth of his magical world—including telephones,  stools and a wider variety of lamps).

The lamps start to take on real personality, and you can’t help but empathize with them. What are they doing banded together like that, lost in the great outdoors? They’re kind of like animals, but you project human emtions onto them—and yet you know they’re just everyday, “indoor” objects… I FEEL WEIRD!!

(P.S. something about this lamp series really gets me in the mood for Christmas… i guess it’s all the magic, glow, and snow. Just sixteen more days!)
